Trade wars and tariffs, like real wars, are the normality of the system

In a commentary, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the KKE stated that “Trade wars and tariffs, like real wars and the build-up of armaments, are not  a ‘deviation from normality’, as the Greek Prime Minister Mr Mitsotakis claims. They are the normality of the system he serves, the EU and their other imperialist alliances, at a time when the world is being redivided with the people as victims.

Therefore, the policies of the New Democracy government, as well as those of the other parties that accept the ‘one-way street’ of capitalism and the EU, are part of the problem and onlyshift new burdens onto the people and involve them in dangerous adventures”.

It should be noted that at the same time the trade unions are fighting for the success of the national general strike on 9 April. With daily discussions, assemblies and campaigns in the workplaces, with pickets in the neighbourhoods, they are promoting the slogan “Their profits or our lives”. The participation in the general strike is a special link in the struggle for the demand for Collective Labour Agreements in sectors and workplaces. On the occasion of the strike, the trade unions are raising their demands for measures to protect the health and life of the workers, as the workplaces have become death traps. With the preparation of the strike, the trade unions and mass organizations intensify the confrontation with the policies that allocate exorbitant amounts of money for war spending and military equipment for NATO’s war plans.
