The GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumpas, met on Thursday the 17th of November with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiades. After the meeting, the GS of the CC of the KKE made the following statement:

"We expressed our great concern and at the same time our opposition to a dichotomous, confederal solution to the Cyprus issue, which will not unite but, on the contrary, will divide the Cypriot people.

At the same time, we expressed the longstanding position of the KKE for a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, for a united state, which means one state and not two states, a common homeland for Greek-Cypriots, Turkish-Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians and Latins, without foreign military bases, British or others, without guarantors and protectors, with one sovereignty, one citizenship, one international personality, this is what one state means in any case.

And from this standpoint, we expressed our solidarity with the Cypriot people, with the just but difficult struggle they are waging in this period so that they can finally become the real masters in their country.”
